1778 - 1943. This is a great reproduction poster originally displayed in the United States of America during World War 2. It attempts to make a link between soldiers from World War Two to those of the War for Independence by having them look "eyes right" to to their military tradition. The WW2 soldiers look to the revolutionary war soldiers, who by the date on the print of 1778 means that they were fighting against the British who had returned after their expulsion from America in 1776. The theme of the resurgent enemy is apparent comparing the second coming of the British to the resurgent Germans (vis a vis Hindenburg World War One / Hitler) and makes a very clever artistic statement. The viewer is clearly called upon to get the job done (again) against a Nazi foe. A great image steeped in military tradition.
